Carved with non-metal tools this early example of lower Sepik art is an excellent representation of 19th century sculpture. The head is very well carved with a pierced septum and nose decoration; the back of the head is also pierced for attachment.; all qualities consistent of its vintage; in addition; the body is very well carved with great tension in the legs. In excellent condition with a deep aged black patina from use.
