Provenance: American collection, collected in the 1950’s in Broome village, Kimberney’s Province

Churinga’s are ceremonial boards made of wood or stone used by the Aboriginals, which bears secret sacred designs; usually the designs are painted or carved. This particular example has been engraved with large geometric shapes, running the length of the board. Within the larger shapes are carved slanted lines. It’s in excellent condition, and has a very old encrusted surface.
