Lime Spatula
Abelam, Papua New Guinea
Early 20th Century

PROVENANCE: Anthony Forge. John Friede, Rye, New York.

This unique Lime Spatula, made out of the bone of a cassowary bird, is powerful in its simplicity. The long, thin spatula has developed a shiny patina due to heavy handling, while the porous nature of the bone adds wonderful texture to the decorative handle. The handle is decorated with a double faced engraved motif, intertwined by curvilinear patterning.
