Drum Finial

Removed from a sacred ceremonial drum this finial is a very fine example.  Carved in high relief this sculpture is classic Iatmul.  The expression is very strong with a mouth exposing many small teeth.  The body is an abstract work of art in and of it self; carved short but with wild movement.  The patina is consistent with the old surfaces one encounters with outdoor objects. In excellent condition.

This finial stands 28 inches tall.
