Woven Mask
Abelam, Sepik Plains, Papua New Guinea
Early 20th Century
These ‘Baba’ woven masks are used in men’s secret society ceremonies. This large example is extremely well done with its abstract open work and tight weave. The old pigments are very much intact as well. A fine example from every angle.
This mask stands 17 inches in height.
