This iconic Nias figure is among the best I have handled. It is extremely rare to find examples with completely unaltered surfaces. This figure has never been cleaned or waxed. The sensitively carved body is surmounted by a hauntingly expressive face; and wonderfully carved earrings that signify high rank. The expression and posture epitomizes the “ancestor figure” in tribal art.
