Gold Weight

Akan Kingdom, Ghana
19th Century or before

This finely cast gold weight is larger than most and it exhibits fine wear from generations of use. Each weight tells a story or a parable; this example is of a seated figure with classic Akan coiffure and curled feet; holding a staff. The weighing of gold dust ended in the turn of the 20th century; so it is safe to assume that this example, of the highest quality, is an early generation object.

This Gold Weight stands 3.2" in height
