Amulet

Dogon, Mali
19th Century
Previous Collection:
Irwin Smiley, NYC
Drs. Jean and Noble Endicott, NYC

This enigmatic amulet covered in leather is a fine example of the archaic nature and vision of the Dogon people. Generations of libations and handling have created an almost mummified surface patina. With arms upright pointing to the heavens this small amulet was an important part of a diviner's paraphernalia. A rare example in excellent condition for its age.

This amulet stands 4" in height.
