Comb

Chokwe/Lunda/Lwena, Angola
Late 19th/Early 20th Century

The small seated figure on this comb is superbly rendered; with elbows resting on knees and hands resting on its chin; the quality of its carving is second to none. The coiffure is classic and the highpoints from handling are deeply worn from generations of use. Carved from hardwood with a darkened patina from hair oils. The abstracted design under the figure is deeply carved and the tines are not replaced; although there is a slight loss to the far right side but this does not detract from the beauty of this object.

The comb stands 6" tall.
