Metal Pipe Bowl

Bamileke, Cameroon
19th Century _Ex: Private NYC Collection

This is an early example of a brass tobacco pipe bowl. These were prestige objects used only during ceremonies of great importance. The finely cast bowl is adorned with numerous faces giving it a very surreal presence. The patina has great depth with many layers of encrustation which is proof positive of an early creation date.

The bowl stands 6 inches tall.
