Spatula

Suriname, South America
Early 20th Century

Provenance: Rena Berger, New York, acquired at Parke Benet Auction House, 1970’s

Although located in South America, Suriname cultural influences are tied to the Caribbean, having strong African and Asian influences due to the mass exodus caused by the West African slave trade. These broad aesthetic influences are visible in this spatula. Beautifully decorated on both sides with geometrical lines, the lattice work on the handle is delicately sculpted. Signs of use are visible on the body of the spatula.

Height: 18.75 inches
