Shrine Figure

Lobi, Burkina Faso
Late 19th/Early 20th Century Previous Collection. Drs. Jean and Noble Endicott

Named by Katsouros & Herkenhoff this figure is carved by the " Master of the Pointed Belly "; which is quite fitting due to its exaggerated features such as the belly and buttocks. Every male among the Lobi carve figures so you get a huge variety of invention and quality among Lobi carvings. This hand is extremely talented and inventive as well as sought after among collectors. This example shows an incredible deep encrusted patina; one of the oldest I have seen. The facial features are obscured due to its age and use.

This figure stands 5.5" tall
