Brass Maskette

Akan, Ghana
19th Century

Previous Collection: The Milton and Freda Rosenthal Collection

This is a classic example of an Akan brass maskette. The casting is fine with great expression and attention to detail, such as the numerous free standing traditional braids. This example may have been used as a pendant because the beard is stylized into a loop.
The patina shows very good signs of handling.

This mask is 2.5 inches in height.
